DSD´s Disposal of Transport Packaging
Producers and distributors are responsible for the recycling of packaging put into circulation. We can take over this responsibility for you!
Principles of the Packaging Ordinance:
§ 3 par. 4 of the Packaging Ordinance specifies transport packaging as packaging which makes it easier to transport goods, which protects goods from damage during transport or which is used for safety reasons, and accumulates at the distributor’s.
The Packaging Ordinance also specifies in § 4 par. 1 and 2 that producers and distributors are obliged to take back transport packaging after use. (…)
The transport packaging taken back is to be supplied for re-usage or material recycling, in so far as such is technically and economically reasonable. (…)
Producers and distributors can use the services of third parties to fulfil the obligations of the Packaging Ordinance (§ 11 Packaging Ordinance).
Example:
Paint buckets are supplied to a DIY store. These are transported on pallets and are protected by a PE foil. The staff at the DIY store remove the protective foil.
Pursuant to the Packaging Ordinance, the producer of the paint buckets would have to take back the PE foil and the pallets at the next delivery of goods, and these would have to be re-used or supplied for appropriate recycling. The distributor (DIY store) also has a duty to organise the recycling.
Alternatively, the Duales System Deutschland GmbH can be commissioned with the collection and organisation of recycling of PE foil and pallets.
Every concept for transport packaging is different
The number of collection sources of producers and distributors varies. There are different types of packaging material which have to be sorted and collected in appropriate containers. This can be organised in various ways depending on the space capacity and container system available.
Examples of the most important transport packaging material:
- Paper, paperboard, cardboard
- PE shrink foil, stretch foil, bubble wrap foil
- Wood
- Tin plate
- Aluminium
- Styrofoam
- Tightening straps
