What is the Green Dot?

„Der Grüne Punkt“ is a protected trademark of the company Duales System Deutschland GmbH. It serves the consumer as an indication that this sales packaging unit is licensed with DSD GmbH. Does the Green Dot exist in other countries as well?

The Green Dot nowadays serves as a financing symbol for collecting, sorting and recycling in 24 countries. Two other countries also use it on a licence basis. This means that the Green Dot is present in 26 countries in the world.

Private sector systems such as Duales System Deutschland GmbH exist not only in the 20 EU member states Belgium, Germany, Estonia, France, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Czechia, Hungary and Cyprus, but also in Norway, being a member of the European economic region, Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey. In these countries, similar systems have been set up on the basis of the relevantly valid national law, whereby the appropriate collection systems are still being set up in many places.

In Great Britain and Canada, the Green Dot is not yet used as a financing symbol. Our local partners, however, ensure that only companies entitled to do so actually use the Green Dot trademark.
