Customers need not do without the trademark:
Exclusive contract for Green Dot
DSD decouples trademark usage from disposal service
Cologne, 25 August 2008. As from 2009, Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD) will be offering its customers usage of the Green Dot trademark independently of the disposal service involved.
“Customers and consumers are keenly interested in the Green Dot as an indication that the manufacturer concerned has met his obligations under the German Packaging Ordinance”, comments Stefan Schreiter, CEO of DSD. “We are therefore offering our customers an option for also using the Green Dot independently of our disposal service.” Manufacturers and fillers of packaged products can in future have their sales packages participate in DSD’s dual system under a service contract – the premium service provider DSD ensures affordable, eco-compatible recycling of the packages concerned.
Utilisation of the trademark is covered by another contract, so that customers can print the Green Dot on their packages even when they are not using DSD’s disposal service. This is conditional on signing a trademark usage contract, and undertaking to meet the requirements of the German Packaging Ordinance for the correspondingly designated packages. The German Federal Cartel Office has welcomed this contractual arrangement.
