DSD to leave the dual systems’ confederation

Cologne, 13. November 2009. Due to differences of opinion in terms of strategic focus, Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD) will be terminating its membership in Germany’s Confederation of Dual Systems (BDSD) effective 31 December 2010, in accordance with the organisation’s bylaws.

Even after week-long efforts, no agreement could be achieved within the organisation about fundamental standards and quality guidelines that have already been manifested by a majority of the dual systems in verpackV/konkret. On a legal and scientific basis, the rules and regulations of the German Packaging Ordinance are interpreted on this internet platform.

Another crucial point of criticism underpinning the decision to leave the confederation is the divergent ideas held by some dual systems on how legally compliant sectoral solutions have to be structured. “Enhancement of successful packing recycling can succeed only if there is a consensus between all dual systems in regard to the focus on statutory stipulations and the quality of expertises on whose basis sectoral solutions are being offered in the market. Only then will fair competition be possible in the future, something that ultimately benefits all the parties involved”, explains Stefan Schreiter. “DSD will no longer make itself available to an organisation that is apparently designed to serve as a cloak for the irresponsible behaviour of other system operators.”
