Waste management at the administrative site in Cologne and at the production sites in Hörstel and Eisfeld is based on national and local legislation. Additional internal guidelines also apply. Waste reports are compiled annually for all three sites by the respective waste management officers, which include responsibilities, guidelines for document management and information on the waste generated and its collection.

Several training courses are planned for 2025 to raise awareness among all employees of the issue of waste collection and separation, both in production and in administration. These training courses will cover topics such as

  • proper waste disposal and the initiative  „Mülltrennung wirkt!” (Waste separation works),
  • cross-border waste transport, and
  • the waste management activities of the group of companies.

Cologne location

In the 2024 reporting year, significantly more electrical appliances were sorted out and professionally disposed of or recycled by a certified specialist company as part of the German Social Accident Insurance (Deutsche Gesetzliche Unfallversicherung DGUV) audit. The separate collection of residual waste, paper/cardboard/cardboard boxes (PPK) and light packaging (LVP) has been established in the coffee kitchens on each floor.

A secure storage room with fire doors and a sprinkler system has been set up for the storage of flammable product samples.

In 2025, employee information will once again be provided to motivate correct waste separation.

Hörstel location

The input quantity of PP packaging from household collections decreased slightly compared to 2023, which is partly attributable to the general market situation in the second half of 2024. In contrast, the output of PP regranulate produced increased due to the use of milled material.

Overall, waste quantities remained at a similar level.

Eisfeld location

The input quantity of plastic films from household collections and the output of LDPE regranulate declined slightly compared to 2023. The reduced input quantities can also be explained in part by the difficult market situation in the second half of 2024. Waste quantities remained stable overall, with the exception of waste wood, sludge and scrap, which saw a slight increase.

Cross-border shipments of ‘green-listed waste’ increased, particularly due to the rise in purchases of LDPE lumps for chemical recycling in other European countries.

General

All waste-related documentation is stored in the Integrated Management System (IMS).

Our sites in Cologne, Hörstel and Eisfeld each keep an operating log in which key information is documented. This includes:

  • Reporting obligations to authorities
  • Special operational incidents
  • Random samples as part of the waste management company audit (Entsorgungsfachbetrieb EfB)
  • An overview of waste-related permits

The operating log serves as an important tool for ensuring operational transparency and compliance with legal requirements in the area of waste and environmental management.
