The Green Dot – a symbol of producer financed circularity for more than 35 years. Today, the brand is no longer just the best-known financing symbol on packaging, but also offers real added value for end consumers. Simply by scanning the ‘DigiDot’ QR code, users can access information on their smartphone about proper sorting and the sustainable properties of the packaging.

The principle is pretty simple: consumers can search for products on the digi-dot.info website or the Digi-Cycle app to obtain regionally specific sorting and disposal instructions at packaging component level. Information on over 1,000 types of waste and around 50,000 brand-name products is already available, as well as more than 250,000 collection points internationally.

In the future, the solution will become even more user-friendly: Manufacturers can attach the “DigiDot” QR code to packaging, which can be scanned directly with a smartphone browser - no app required. Within seconds, end consumers receive precise, location-specific information on the correct sorting and disposal of the respective packaging. The instructions are available in several languages and can be supplemented with additional product-specific information if desired.

DigiDot is the digital EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) symbol and trademark of Der Grüne Punkt (The Green Dot) – redesigned to meet the requirements of modern end consumers and legal frameworks.

DigiDot combines the high level of awareness and trust associated with ‘The Green Dot’ with modern digital possibilities for conveying information. As manufacturers you can decide for yourself which product information is available via DigiDot and integrate it specifically into your communication with end consumers – for example, through external links, competitions or other incentives. The QR code serves as an interface between the information needs of end consumers and the individual product communication of manufacturers.

Your advantages at a glance:

  • Digital trademark: A visible sign of producer-financed circularity – directly on the packaging.
  • Smart end-consumer communication: Direct interaction with end-consumers via QR code, no app required, simply via smartphone browser.
  • Precise sorting instructions: Detailed information at component level (e.g. lid, foil, cup) for correct waste sorting and collection.
  • Regional & language-sensitive: Consideration of local sorting rules and automatic adaptation to the user's language.
  • International scalability: Can be used in up to 31 countries – planned from 2026 – with country-specific adaptation.
  • Expandable functions: Optional links to company websites, gamification elements, competitions or sustainability campaigns.

It works that simple:

1. Scan the DigiDot QR code on the packaging

2. Your location is detected – no app is required

3. See immediately how to sort the packaging correctly

4. Access additional information on sustainability and product responsibility

Why now?

End-consumers demand transparency. Legislators demand verifiability. Brands need digital solutions. DigiDot combines all of this directly on the packaging.

The Green Dot has been known worldwide for more than 35 years and stands for competence and trust. Today, it symbolizes not only financing, but also genuine end-consumer communication. With DigiDot, a symbol becomes a dialogue.
