German Sustainability Award: Der Grüne Punkt placed in the Top 3

Der Grüne Punkt placed in the Top 3

Cologne, 19 September 2017. Der Grüne Punkt ranks among the Top 3 for the 10th German Sustainability Award in the “Resource Efficiency” category. In its meeting on 11 September 2017, the jury for the German Sustainability Award chose Der Grüne Punkt among the best three companies for this accolade – which means the group has good prospects of receiving a German Sustainability Award at the awards ceremony in Düsseldorf on 8 December 2017.

“I am very proud of this nomination, since it’s an accolade that acknowledges all the effort and commitment that in particular the people who work for Der Grüne Punkt have contributed over recent years,” comments a gratified Michael Wiener, CEO of Der Grüne Punkt. “This nomination confirms that we are on the right track in comprehending used products and packages as raw materials for manufacturing operations. By using them we economize on resources and close cycles.”

Der Grüne Punkt has since 1991 built up the world’s first dual system for separate collection of used sales packages, encouraged the development of technologies for sorting and recovering recyclable materials, and in recent years invested substantial sums in the development and manufacture of recyclates particularly from plastic waste. Meanwhile, it’s even possible to produce new sales packages from recycled plastic of the Systalen brand, obtained from the Yellow Sack and the Yellow Bin.
