Cologne, 6 April 2017. In Düsseldorf, everything will again be revolving around packaging for one week this year. At the interpack trade fair being held from 4 to 10 May, packaging manufacturers from all over the world will be showcasing their innovative ideas. The fair is for many sectors one of the year’s most prominent events, and is of premier importance for the packaging material industry.
Der Grüne Punkt will also be represented with a stand of its own in support of the Save Food initiative in the interpack’s Packaging Innovation Park. It is not only the market leader among the dual systems, it also provides assistance in designing sustainable packages, and thus makes a vital contribution towards the fight against food wastage. After all: packages protect foods and beverages from spoilage, but are at the same time required to minimize the environmental impact involved. With its “Design4Recycling” service, Der Grüne Punkt proactively promotes waste avoidance and recycling, thus ensuring reliably sustainable recovery of packages in line with the concept of a closed-cycle economy.
One of the greatest challenges faced by the packaging industry is to protect food and beverages from spoilage, damage or contamination. After all, there are more and more people living on this planet, and they all need to be adequately fed. So far, however, many foods and beverages are already being spoiled during storage or on their way to the consumer. This is frequently attributable to unsuitable packaging.
Finding a solution to this problem is a major concern, not least to the Save Food initiative, of which Der Grüne Punkt has been a long-standing supporter. It will be represented for the third time at the interpack, where the “Save Food Packaging Award” will be conferred. The aim is to find a packaging solution that helps to reduce food losses and wastage. Save Food is here prioritizing a sustainable concept with minimized resource utilization. The “WorldStar Packaging Award” of the World Packaging Organization has thus added another new category in the shape of this prize. During the interpack, the national winners previously determined from more than 15 different countries will be competing against each other.
