Cologne, 5 March 2018. Yet another new piece of legislation and even more bothersome duties to perform that distract us from conducting our actual business – that's what a lot of people think when they hear the words “Packaging Act”. “And even more manufacturers are totally unaware that they have to make appropriate preparations before the act comes into force and take suitable measures before the end of this year,” warns Michael Wiener, CEO of Der Grüne Punkt. “For all of them, we’ve produced a short, informative video.” The act defines a manufacturer of packages subject to mandatory system participation as all vendors who act commercially as initial distributors of the packages concerned, i.e. also online dealers in all orders of magnitude.
But this is what a lot of people don’t know: for products that are intended for private consumption and whose packages are not participating in a dual system, a sales ban will apply! So it’s imperative to make timely preparations.
The new video from Der Grüne Punkt on the German Packaging Act explains what needs to be done. In just under three minutes, it clarifies how as a manufacturer you register with the newly established central government agency, how you arrange for your packages to participate in a system, and why the whole thing is so important.
