By 2050, annual demand for plastic in Europe will rise to around 75 million tons. If we succeed in avoiding plastic products on a large scale and switching to reusable packaging, the increase can be curbed – annual consumption would still be 62 million tons.
To date, it is only possible to speak in rudimentary terms of a circular economy for plastic, but this will and must change. Laurent Auguste, CEO of the GreenDot Group, describes in an opinion piece for the “Lebensmittel Zeitung” what such a circular economy looks like and what the various recycling processes can contribute to it.
