Cologne, 21 May 2021. The management and the employees’ council of the Der Grüne Punkt Group have approved a redundancy plan, so as to upgrade the group’s competitiveness in a fiercely contested market. “After long, intense negotiations, we arrived at a fair and viable solution,” says Michael Wiener, CEO of Der Grüne Punkt. “The measures adopted will involve painful but unavoidable cuts. What I particularly regret is that we will have to part with long-serving employees who have over many years furthered our company’s interests with exceptional commitment.”

The group of companies will arrange for socially acceptable payroll downsizing, cutting about 50 jobs. The welfare partners agree that there is no alternative to corporate streamlining. “We are compelled to work on our cost structures, so that we remain capable of submitting attractively priced offers to our clients,” emphasizes Michael Wiener.

The measures adopted are essential prerequisites for making sure the company will be fit for future purpose and for securing the remaining jobs. “Der Grüne Punkt possesses a unique expertise in its chosen field, and we have channeled substantial capital investment into plastics recycling over recent years,” to quote Wiener. “Both the circular economy and climate protection create rising levels of demand for premium-quality recyclates. We are now putting in place the preconditions for future sustainable growth.”
