Cologne, 06. November 2025. GreenDot, one of Europe’s leading circular economy pioneers, is launching the digital sorting guide “DigiDot” in Germany, with a European rollout planned for Q1 2026. The innovative platform helps consumers make better sorting decisions by providing simple, location- and language-specific instructions for packaging disposal.
The principle is very simple: consumers can search for products on the digi-dot.info website or the Digi-Cycle app to obtain for each type of packaging location specific sorting and disposal instructions. Information on over 1,000 types of packaging and around 50,000 branded products is already available, as well as more than 250,000 collection points across Europe.
In the near future, the solution will become even more user-friendly: manufacturers will be able to attach the “DigiDot” QR code to their packaging, which can be scanned directly with a smartphone browser – without the need for an app. Within seconds, consumers receive precise, location-specific information on the correct sorting and disposal of the respective packaging. The information is already available in several languages and can be supplemented with additional product-specific information if desired.
Designed for international scalability, “DigiDot” can be implemented in up to 31 countries, with country-specific adaptations planned from 2026.
Strong partners for increased sustainability
Developed in partnership with Digi-Cycle, the solution is already supported by major FMCG brands in Germany such as Mondelēz International, Danone and Nespresso, which contribute to make sorting guidance more accurate and accessible.
“Recycling starts with informed consumers,” says Denis Völler, Managing Director of Der Grüne Punkt. “With the digital sorting guide, we are fundamentally improving consumer behaviour.” Felix Badura, Managing Director of Digi-Cycle, adds: “Recycling must begin where the decision is made – with the product in the consumer’s hands.”
By combining digital innovation with consumer engagement, GreenDot is helping to meet the ambitious goals of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which requires that by 2030, at least 55% of all plastic packaging be recycled.
