The German Packaging Act (VerpackG) obliges manufacturers and retailers to take responsibility for the environmentally friendly disposal and recycling of their packaging and at the same time offers legal certainty.
A recent example demonstrates how important it is to comply with the requirements: A major mail-order pharmacy based abroad had to pay at least two million euros in retrospective payments because, although it had registered its mail-order packaging in the packaging register, it had not participated in one of the dual systems.
Those who act early, register in the LUCID packaging register, license their packaging at a dual system and report quantities correctly can avoid such back payments. In this way, companies not only benefit from legal certainty, but also from fair competition and a positive perception among customers and partners.
