Der Grüne Punkt welcomed eight representatives from the PHW Group to our facility in Hörstel. After previously visiting a sorting plant for lightweight packaging, this time the focus was on touring our state-of-the-art recycling facility.
The day began with a comprehensive theoretical session on the collection, sorting, and processing of lightweight packaging from household waste. Numerous practical examples from ongoing projects and product applications illustrated the importance and potential of a functioning recyclable materials cycle. Afterwards, our guests received an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the PP recycling plant. A particular highlight was the tour of the newly redesigned quality assurance laboratory, where quality is continuously monitored throughout the entire process chain — from input materials through processing to the final Systalen® post-consumer recyclate.
Participants showed great interest in the sorting and utilization of lightweight packaging collected via the Yellow Bag system, especially with regard to creating closed-loop material cycles. The discussion also focused on the requirements of the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), such as recyclability based on Design for Recycling (D4R) and minimum recycled content in plastic packaging.
We thank the PHW Group for the open exchange and the shared commitment to a sustainable packaging future!
