“We at Der Grüne Punkt are aware of our social and societal responsibility as a company. With Donate Your Deposit, we manage to conserve resources by collecting thousands of returnable bottles every day and keeping them in circulation. We are very proud that we have already been able to create over 40 jobs as part of the project!”
Launched as a university project by students, Der Grüne Punkt worked with Stuttgart Airport to further develop the “Donate Your Deposit” project and established it in 2013.
There are now Donate Your Deposit collection bins in the security checkpoint area at eight German airports.
Passengers can donate their deposit bottles and cans instead of throwing them in the bin.
Formerly long-term unemployed people are given a new opportunity here and take over the emptying, cleaning and maintenance of the containers at the airports, making them an important part of the project as deposit officers. Over 40 jobs have been created so far.
The resulting deposit values are paid out directly to the sponsoring organizations in the respective cities of the airport locations on a monthly basis.
Der Grüne Punkt organizes the counting and collection of the deposit bags and ensures that the deposit bottles and cans remain in the system and are recycled. Der Grüne Punkt covers the costs of logistics, counting and claims management as an annual donation.
