Cologne, Germany, 8 December 2022. Michael Wiener, who has been with Der Grüne Punkt since 2006 and has been the group's CEO since 2015, will move to the group's board on 1 January 2023, and will keep on supporting development of the business.

Carlos Monreal, founder and president of Circular Resources, the parent company of Der Grüne Punkt, and Ralf Huep, chairman of the board of Der Grüne Punkt thanked Michael Wiener for his many years of commitment to the Green Dot. “Michael has developed the Green Dot into what it is today: a globally respected role model in the implementation of extended product responsibility and a technology leader in plastics recycling. I am delighted that Michael will stay on board and support us in the development of holistic and international plastics recycling. His experience and network will be invaluable”, said Mr Huep.

Michael Wiener had joined Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH in 2006 as Sales Manager and subsequently held various positions in the Group as Managing Director. Since 2015, he has headed as CEO DSD – Duales System Holding GmbH & Co. KG and thus the group of companies with the Green Dot. Wiener played a key role in building up the recyclates business with the Systalen® brand, implementing the further restructuring of the group of companies in a market characterized by intense competition, and finally managing the takeover by Circular Resources paving the way to add chemical recycling to the offering of the company.

In August 2022, Circular Resources had fully acquired Der Grüne Punkt. Circular Resources is a company founded with the aim of closing the plastic recycling loop for the benefit of brand owners. Laurent Auguste, the CEO of Circular Resources, will take over the management of the holding company.

“I look back with great gratitude on the many years at Der Grüne Punkt and also with pride at what we have built up here as a management team together with all our employees,” said Michael Wiener. “This also includes the often critical, almost always very constructive exchange in the political arena and with the associations. I am looking forward to the new task and to helping shape the future of plastics recycling with a new function on the board. And I'm especially looking forward to continuing to work with Carlos, Ralf and Laurent, and to working with them to make our visions of holistic plastics recycling a reality.”

Laurent Auguste also thanked Michael Wiener for his work and welcomed the continued collaboration, “Michael has done an outstanding job and I am proud to succeed him. We have a great responsibility together, because the future of plastic as a material and the drama of the plastic waste crisis need solutions now, as we develop them and bring them to market.”
